Theory and Practice
Methods and
Modalities
Astrology is the art of co-creating our biography.
We call an astrology consultation a “reading” because the starry script is a language. We let the different images, qualities, and movements of the planets and stars inform us. In turn, we could also call an astrology consultation a “writing” because, through language and story, we define ourselves and our path ahead.
My role is to be the interpreter of this foreign language, but I also act as co-writer, helping you articulate dreams, clarify potentials, and prepare for pitfalls.
My Toolbox
Astrology is incredibly useful in helping us navigate the intricate challenges of life.
Beyond the basic understanding of a biography articulated by the birth chart and its current unfolding through time, the astrological practices of synastry (relationship astrology), astrocartography (place-based astrology), and the various techniques of what is called “remediation”—the ritual process of working through difficult archetypal dynamics—can all be very therapeutic and empowering.
I draw tools from several different astrological, contemplative, and healing traditions. Throughout our session, I might suggest practices working with the intentional use of color, different health and embodiment practices, or simply reading relevant texts. I might pinpoint a place you could appreciate spending more time, an opportune period of time to launch a project or make a major change, or suggest a particular day of the week for a particular type of prayer.
In essence, it’s about designing an artistic way of living, drawing on the tools of astrology and esotericism, aligning us with the whirling, poetic dance of creation.
Star Poetry
There are many different traditional rhythms and forms of astrology — different ways of listening to the language of the stars, from Hellenistic Astrology to Jyotish (Vedic Astrology) and contemporary psychological astrology, which is based in Jungian Analytical Psychology. I call my practice Star Poetry, a term coined by my teaching colleague Olivia Pepper. Star Poetry draws techniques and ideas from many different traditions and star languages, but above all, Star Poetry seeks to stay in contact with the poetic nature of astrology—something that happens through a focus on its living symbolism and participatory nature.
Here, astrology is as much an art as it is a science. Indeed, I’ve found that my best readings are not those in which I solely convey traditional understandings and remediation techniques, but rather those in which some sort of subtle magic leads us to the right stories and strategies for the season of life you’re in.
This does not mean that the form of astrology I practice is without bones or naively focuses on the positive, without any appreciation for the difficult aspects of astrology. No—I consider my ability to forewarn and help others through these dark moments essential to my craft. Likewise, I believe that there is a moral element to spirituality wherein it is our responsibility to follow through with the potential given to us.
Get in Synch.
Working with astrology, we can tune in with “the music of the spheres” and get in synch with the unfolding of our biography.
We’re often handed a sort of script for our lives: go to college, get a good job, get married, have kids, etc. There’s a form that we’re supposed to squeeze ourselves into, although human biographies—and especially the best ones—seldom unfold in such a linear manner. Rather, there’s something of a mysterious, organic unfurling of each unique human spirit through time. Sometimes, parts of ourselves ripen for decades before they blossom. Identities can be exhausted, become outworn or limiting. The soul expands, contracts, and transforms in its own rhythm—a rhythm mirrored by astrology.
